    The heigher you go the easier it is to use them. I would suggest you place them at the same height as the ones currently in the house. If your worried about water you can out them at 18″ which is where they are put for people in wheel chairs. I would also GFCI protect the circuits.

    Best to call your town’s local buidling office and get the exact requirments. They probably have a handout/copy/instructions for reference. The worst thing is to go ahead and do the job and find out later it didn’t meet local codes and they made you either redo or remove/take down the work.
